David Leckenby - Ambient Trance music producer

I am interested in the potentials and higher realities that are revealed within authentic creative expression and inspiration. Brought up as part of Generation X in Melbourne, Australia, music has been a constant thread in my life, with my attention turning to electronic music production after the rave scene came into being in the early 90s. This exciting cultural movement fairly quickly turned to various combinations of hedonism, lethargy and conservatism, but the seeds of inner freedom and oneness had taken root in my heart and mind.

From then on my direction has been guided by an inner yearning for depth and mystery, and I pursued this through martial arts, reading, and meditation. This eventually led me to find an incredible western teacher of enlightenment called Andrew Cohen, who I am still with today as his student. After giving up my musical ambitions to be what I thought was FREE, my musical passion was once again re-ignited when my spiritual teacher started playing in his jazz-funk-rock collective called ‘Unfulfilled Desires’ (check them out!).

Since then I have produced three artist albums of compiled material that really trace and express my own deepening experience and understanding of striving to live an awakened life in the hustle and bustle of inner city London. It becomes clear to me again and again, that it’s the inter-subjective shared field of relationship, or culture, that is the most important thing in the world. When this field starts to flower (through us!), we can discover higher, deeper and more inclusive ways to be together as people. Only then will really new forms of art and music naturally unfold that will be expressions of a more whole and higher reality, just like what I, and many others, envisioned years before.

As part of endeavoring to bring this higher consciousness into being through performance art, I am part of a collective called ‘Kosmic Fire’, along with Jody Paterson and Adam McEwan. We are a live, multi-media outfit combining music, dance and visual projections which over the last 2 years has played at a Integral/EnlightenNext/Steiner conference in Frankfurt, Germany, a dance party in New York called Kosmic Grooves and many other shows in the UK.
